Trinity Stitch Scarf ~ FREE PATTERN

Materials:

* one skein of  worsted weight yarn (250 ish yards for average scarf, more for longer length) I used I Love This Yarn! by Hobby Lobby in Red Tweed for the tutorial. The other pictures are Hobby Lobby  ILTY! in Seablue Tweed and Grey with Agean Stripes tassels.

* N hook

* yarn needle for weaving in ends

*scissors

Special stitch explanation:

Trinity Stitch: sc in first sc, insert hook in same sc and draw up a loop. Insert hook in next st and draw up another loop (3 loops on hook). Insert hook in the very next st draw up another loop. (4 st on hook) Yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook. Chain 1.

Here we go! Lets have some fun :)

Chain 25

Now we begin the trinity stitch.....

Row 1:
Sc in second chain from hook,
insert hook in SAME chain and pull up a loop (now 2 loops on hook)

Insert hook in next chain (number 3 in the picture) and draw up another loop....  *now 3 loops on your hook*
Insert hook in the next chain (number 4 in the picture) and draw up a loop..... *now you have 4 loops on hook
Now yarn over and draw yarn through all 4 loops
And then chain 1

* Insert hook in same sc and draw up a loop. Insert hook in next st and draw up another loop (3 loops on hook). Insert hook in the very next st draw up another loop. (4 st on hook) Yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook. Chain 1.* repeat all the way across. Sc in same ch as last st.

Row 2:  Chain 1 and turn. Sc in first sc,  *insert hook in same sc and draw up a loop. Insert hook in next st and draw up another loop (3 loops on hook). Insert hook in the very next st draw up another loop. (4 st on hook) Yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook. Chain 1.* repeat across row. Sc in same ch as last st.

Repeat row 2 until you run out of yarn. Tie off.

Add fringe in the corners, all the way across or none at all....

Now youre finished! Wrap up and enjoy your beautiful new Trinity Scarf <3

    1. Violet, when you get to the end of the first row ch 1...... turn your work and pull up a loop right in that very same lil stitch right below the ch 1 then, pull up your second loop in the top of the trinity stitch on the first row and so on and so on creating your first trinity.... then just continue across :) Hope this helps <3

    1. Hummmmm I think without seeing how you are stitching it I might have a prob giving u further direction :( If you are making the wristers make sure to switch to your K hook after the sc row across the top of the band.... if you still feel that isnt giving you the correct look or feel you would like maybe try switching from the K to the N hook..... let me know if this helps :)

  4. June, think I could use a chunky or bulky weight yarn for this scarf. Just wondering bc I have tons of it!

    1. I made hat in chunky work with smaller hook than yarn label states
But measure around head as you make band and end on even number then follow pattern and maybe only 6 chs high for band and keep trying height as you go on body before decrease

  8. After chaining 25, making the first trinity stitch and chaining one, the instructions state * Insert hook in same sc and draw up a loop. I'm confused. Do you mean insert hook in the next chain. How would you insert the hook in the "same single crochet"? Thanks.

  9. Since skeins come in different sizes, what size (ounces or yards) do you need to make this?

  11. Is there a video tutorial for this? I saw that there is one for the hat on YouTube. Sometimes I need a video to help reassure me that I am doing it right. Thanks!

  12. How long was your final scarf? I am using 3 different colors in a striped pattern and wondering where to stop.

    1. I mainly hang around neck and let it go to each wrist
That way you can wear in most styles

  14. Your pattern was so much easy and fun to make. I was able to make at least 2 dozens of the beanie hats and donated them to our local charity. Now I'm going to try to do the wrist warmer and the scarf. Thank you so much!

  15. Having trouble. Chaining 25, I end up with an extra chain at the end. Chain 24, it ends up right until the end of the 4th row where I am short one stitch. Would love to make this scarf, can you figure out what I'm doing wrong by my description?

  16. Me too, Anonymous! So I went with an even number of chains but still my edges are not straight as the pictures. After 6 tries today, I've finally given up. Beautiful pattern/design for a scarf. Just not meant for me to make :(

  17. So, when I finished my first row, I ended up with 23 stitches. Is that correct?

  18. Is the book size 9.0 mm (M/N13) or 10.0 mm (N15)? I started off using the 10.0 'll but it looked real loose. Switched to 9.0 'll and it's better but still loose and doesn't look as tight as the pictures scarf. If I make another one, I think I might even go down to the L (8.0 mm) sized hook. Thank you so m7ch for the pattern!

  23. I though with the Trinity Stitch you always chain an even number but maybe this is why I always have one extra chain I always have to get rid of?
